Oaxaca, Untitled #1
I've been in Mexico for 3 1/2 days but today was my first full day in Oaxaca. Ill be here until the 5th of March. I'm hoping to make blog posts from my blackberry. The morning stared with a three hour drive through the mountains on one of the most winedy roads I've ever been on. There are not street lights so that first hour before the sun rose was treacherous. Adam dropped Dulce and I off in the heart of Oaxaca and headed to work. Dulce was headed to work as well and before I new it I was a tourist. I started walking in the direction that Adam had pointed. After getting side tracked a few times I managed to find el Zocalo, the spanish architectural influenced town square. While I was contemplating what to do about breakfast a street vendor approached me with miniature mexican blankets. He sat down with me for my first conversation in spanish without Adams assistance. To my surprise it wasn't a total disaster. I did have some difficulty explaining that our trip to the beach had gal strength winds. I explained to the gentlemen that I was searching for a place to eat breakfast but wasn't interested in more expensive restaurant in el Zocalo. He pointed me in the direction of the market and so I hit him with a 5 spot for good measure. As indecisive as I am I still wandered for a while weighing my options. Finally I found a food court in the middle of the market and gave in. Chocolate con leche and some bread would be a typical breakfast, I opted for a chicken mole tamale as well. Adam later informed me that he would have suggested not eating at that market, no es para los gringos. With a full stomach I could wander for the next six hours. And that's just what I did. This was the first attempt. More to come.......
